Valerie Curtis-Newton on diversity in theatre

Check out this interview below which Marcie Sillman, of Kuow.org/94.9 FM in Seattle, recently hosted with Valerie Curtis-Newton. The interview-article is entitled, "She’s a theater legend. But still often the only black person in the room."

That pretty much clues you in on what the article is about, and Ms. Curtis-Newton has striven hard to bring more diverse voices to the immensely important field of theatre. She's currently working with Intiman Theatre on a festival of new plays by black women (kudos also to the very talented artistic director, Andrew Russell, for co-curating this festival).  If you're in Seattle and you have a chance to take this in, consider yourself lucky. And maybe, some years down the line, it will be more common to view plays by African American women than simply "lucky."
